Vanilla is a lovechild - the product of a three year partnership between Matthew Ritter and myself. It started out as little ficlet dabbles in my head in 2000 - very percise, cliche, and to the point. Five years and three rewrites later (including an almost completed version that was eventually abandoned but is often reflected fondly upon) finds Vanilla at the drawing board all over again.
Vanilla is something that I personally love to hate. I often consider just abandoning the disaster altogether.. but I always end up crawling back. Writing it is a chore more often then not, but when I look back at the finished chapters, I'm really quite proud of myself.
It's amazing to see how far the novel itself has come. I can't imagine what it would have turned out to be if I had worked the novel alone - if Matt hadn't come along and saved it. I don't always agree with his perspective, and sometimes I even reject it entirely, only to grudgingly accept it and follow his example.. which, not surprisingly, is usually for the better.
Vanilla is the only thing that keeps me writing for the most part, for which I am thankful. Because of that, I figure I at least owe it a definite ending.. Someday, anyway. ^_~
